May 05, 1969 - Tina the T.V. Chimp Makes Air Race Bid. Tina, the 5 year old chimpanzee star of Brooke Bond Television commercials, makes her first attempt in the Daily Mail Transatlantic Air Race today. Tina left the G.P.O. Tower by Rolls Royce for London Airport, where she checked in for BOAC Flight 501, leaving for New York. Tina will make her West East attempt in the Great Air Race on Friday.
