Aug. 27, 1969 - Snakes at the Savoy Boa constrictors, grass snakes and pythons were invited to a party in the River Room at the Savoy Hotel today, given by Hamlyn Books to introduce their new range of non fiction all colour paperbacks. Costing only 6s each, these books are a mine of information on practically any subject from gardening to mythology. There are 140 titles in work and every page has a colour illustration. One of the books is an encyclopaedia of pets for children and it suggests that a child's best friend could well be a non poisonous snake and to prove it Hamlyn's asked some children to the party with their serpentine friends. Just in case any of the pythons got too inquisitive and decide to go on a tour of the Savoy, there were two handlers from the Zoo in attendance. There was also a herpetological expert to talk to the children about the ware of their snakes.
