Feb. 02, 1969 - Operation To Save The Life Of Alligator. Veterinary surgeons performed an hour long operation to save the life of a Spectacle Cayman. The 5 8ins longayman (alligator from South America), was suffering from fluid around the heart, the surgeons discovered when it was examined internally. Zoo officials at Paignton, Devon, became worried when Alec the pet name of the cayman - became ill. They were also baffled by the mystery illness and an operation was deemed necessary. Preparing Alec for the operation took two days.
