Apr. 08, 1970 - Cameron the Chimpanzee meets his public.: Cameron the chimpanzee, meets his public for the first time today at the London zoo. Deserted by his mother Fifi, on the day he was born, seven-months old Cameron was hand-reared by Mrs. Patricia Brambell, wife of the Curator of Mammals. For three months he shared the family life of the Brambell household, having four-hourly feeds like any human baby. At three months Cameron went to nursery school, in the Monkey House where also being looked after by the Monkey House Keepers. For a while at night, he returned to the Brambell's house for his evening feed and to sleep. Now Cameron is growing up and is settling in to a full life in the Monkey House, where his routine is supervised by Head Keeper George Callard, and where he will be on view from 9.30 am to 12 noon and from 1.30pm until 5.30 each day. As soon as the weather gets warmer he will be taken out by one of the Keepers onto the Tea Party Lawn to play in the sunshine. When he was born the little chimp had a very slight twist to his nose so he was called Cameron, which means twisted nose'. Photo shows head keeper George Callard spoon-feeding Cameron at London zoo today
