Animals - Aquariums - Archeology - Insects - Fossils - Zoos

Jun. 30, 1970 - Another orang-utan baby born in Munich: Only 16 months after the sensational birth of orang-utan twins another baby of these huge apes was born in the Munich zoo Hellabrunn only a couple of days ago. The mother Evi had been two years old when she came to the Munich zoo in 1962. Father of the new-born female baby as well as of the twins is 16-year-old orang-utan Maxi. Including the 7 pre-war orang-utans this is the 10th to be born in the Munich zoo. Being as free living orang-utans are almost extincted on Sumatra and Borneo, every birth in a zoo is important to save these apes from dying out. Photo shows of mother and baby was taken only 2 hours after the successful birth
