Mar. 04, 1969 - Chester Zoo's Pregnant Gorilla: There was an extra large helping of wood shavings at the weekend for Chester Zoo's pregnant gorilla, Noelle, (straw was abandoned when keepers discovered it's connection with colds and sneezes), and as the great event draws near, tension is building up in the tropical house where Noelle and the father, Mukisi, are housed in separate compounds.The birth is imminent - it could be any time now O and even their neighbours in the tropical house seem to sense that something important is about to happen as zoo staff keep up their round-the-clock vigil and a battery of cameras are poised ready to record the event in pictures which will make poised ready to record the event in pictures which will make the 11-year old 20-stone mountain gorilla and her new baby famous throughout the world. For this will be only the second gorilla baby ever born in captivity and a first time event for a British zoo.
