May 05, 1971 - Toffee Must stay In A Hotel For Life: While his master sets sail for Australia, 17-year-old Toffee, settles into his new home knowing that he is probably the only cat in England with his own bank account - for when former Torquay hotelier and flatlet owner, Mr. Geoffrey Loffrey Loftus, his wife and family decided to emigrate to Australia, the problem of what to do with Toffee, the family pat for 17 years, was a major one. The family felt that the journey to Australia would to be too much for a cat of Toffee's years. Mrs. Grovern of the Torbay Cats hotel who has agreed to be Toffee's guardian explained that the decision was a difficult one for the family but they put Toffee's welfare first and arranged with local bank leaving money for Toffee's keep for the rest of his life.
