May 14, 1971 - Toffee Must Stay In A Hotel For Life. While his master sets sail for Australia, 17-year-old Toffee settle into his new home knowing own bank account - for when former Torquay hotelier and flatlet owner, Mr. Geoffrey Loftus, his wife and family decided to emigrate to Australia, the problem of what to do with Toffee, the family pet for 17 years was a major one. The family felt that the journey to Australia would be too much for a cat of Toffee's years. Mrs. Grovern of the Torbay Cats hotel who has agreed to be Toffee's guardian explained that the decision was a difficult one for the family but they put Toffee's welfare first and arranged with a local bank leaving money for Toffee's keep for the rest of his life.
