By gripping the serpent's head, he reasoned, he would be able to control its movements. But he was wrong. Slowly but surely the giant killer coiled its fifteen feet of crushing muscles around the naturalist. Seeing his plight and prepared for such a disaster, some of his friends rushed to the rescue.
