May 05, 1973 - Tokyo's Pandas Move Into New60, 000 Home'.: The two giant pandas Kangkang and Lanlan, presented by China to Japan this year, following the renewal of friendly relations between the two countries, were moved into new pens which cost60, 000 to construct. The new home covers 154-square meters. It is air-conditioned, and has floor heaters, glass-washing sprays, and soundproofing. There is also a 223-square meter outdoor playground and showers, as well as a special pen for baby pandas. At the moment the pandas live apart, but look at each other through the plate glass divisions, until they are a little older. Photo shows Kankang, the female panda, explores her new home as the male panda Lanlan (92 kgs) watches her through the glass partitions
