Aug. 23, 1973 - The First tame sparrow of the world. is called Jonathan'. It's just a tiny bit of a person and for ornithologists an enormous sensation for until now they had to assume it was not possible to breed sparrows within captivity. Jonathan, however, which is out of his shell now only, 6 weeks, has proven the unlikely to come true. His parents have lived in captivity for two years, their home being a huge bird-cage in Widdleswehr near Emden. It belongs to Rudolf Bruns(36) who is an electrician and a hobby ornithologist as well. No wonder Mr. Bruns (shown on our photo with his tiny Sparrow) is looking so affectionately at his little pet. After all Swiss behaviorists have offered to pay 5000 marks to anyone who can make sparrow build their nest and breed in Captivity. They have tired to do so in vain for several years
