Aug. 08, 1974 - TALKING ORANG-UTAN FOR TV PROGRAMME. A talking orang-utan called Cody is the star of Thames Television's TODAY programme tonight. He will be interviewed by John Stapleton. Cody, a 13 months old, was adopted by Ph. D reseach student Keith Laidler six weeks after birth. Since then he has been treated as a human baby, sleeping in a cot in a nursery, given toys and a climbing frame to play with, and is being taught to speak - his vocabulary now totals two half-words. Cody is now about 18 inches tall and will grow to an eventual 4ft 6ins. He lives at Flamingo Park Zoo, near Malton, Yorkshire.
