Apr. 05, 1973 - Twin Black Bear Cubs Make Their Debut At The London Zoo. Benjamin-Bear and Belinda-Bear made their first appearance on the Mappin Terraces of the London Zoo today. The twins, born on Jan. 16th are the first American Black Bear cubs to be reared at London Zoo since it opened in 1826. Their parents Billie and Bessie came to the zoo in 1965 from Assiniboine Park Zoo, Calgary in spite of their name, American Black Bears are in fact brown in colour.
