Oct. 16, 1974 - Frozen Swallows are revived in Switzerland and taken to warmer climate for survival: Thousands of swallows who started their migration southwards became victims of the very cold spell in Switzerland where many of them perished. The Swiss people came to the rescue of the survivors when they gathered them together too weak to resist capture. They tended and fed them and then packed them in boxes, transported them by trains to Southern Switzerland on the other side of the Alps, in the Ticino, which has a Mediterranean like climate. Photo shows this kindly Swiss citizen is pictured with some of the swallows he rescued from certain death
