Jul. 07, 1978 - Luxury Hotel For Dogs.: Wealthy Japanese dog lovers send their pets to the hotel section of the Iwamoto Animal Hospital in the Nakano district of Tokyo for rest and recuperation, wash and brush-up, haircut, and general overhaul. There are no kannels, just 49 rooms including 4 luxury suites all air-conditioned some with beds, bathrooms, and colour televisions sets. Some of the clients love it and don't want to leave. Here, dogs can meet suitable mates another reason why some of them find it hard to go home. The luxury suites cost 3 a day, and this A section is usually occupied by high class dogs, the B section at 12 shillings a day for dogs with rather short pedigree, while the C section at 8 shillings a day are for dogs of doubtful parentage. Dr. Terou Iwamoto, the enterprising veterinary, has a staff of five trained persons to cater to the clients and the hotel has become so popular that the building is to be enlarged next year. British export of pedigree dogs to Japan has risen over the last three years - but several animal groups have called for a stop - claiming that the Japanese mistreat their dogs. The Kennel Club does not believe in Britain. But to queel criticism of the exports to Japan, the club has decided to send a veterinarian out to Japan next month to find outwhat conditions are.
