Aug. 08, 1978 - Monster cockroaches as family pets: Insect expert Judith Marshall yesterday defended her favourite pets Madagascar hissing cockroaches. She said they're beautiful and harmless. A pet shop owned by Mr. Steve Zlotowitz is planning to sell the giant cockroached at1.20 a pair to children as pets. This as caused a rumpus after a retired American professor claimed that if any escaped they could eventually over-run Britain. An escaped pair could reproduce 152, 000 million in two years, they should destroy the monsters now. But 35 years old Judith an entomologist at the British Natural History Museum said; Even if if they do escape they will not swamp the country-it's too cold here for them to breed'. The three to four inch long brown insect has been a popular pet among insect lovers for years, she said.
