Sep. 20, 1977 - Victor the Giraffe dies for Love: Victor, the amorous Giraffe from Marwell Zoological park near Winchester, fell in love last Thursday and couldn't get up again. He had spent the night with three lady giraffes and collapsed into the splits. Firemen were called in to try to get him back on his feet but all attempts failed. He has been dosed with drugs to keep his strength up and yesterday a frame was built around him for a desperate attempt to hoist him up. People from all over had sent him get wall cards and he had many sympathetic visitors, but today, as zoo officials carried out the task of hoisting him officials carried out the task of hoisting him it is believed that Victor died from shock.
