Feb. 05, 1963 - 5-2-63 Mr. Elder in his House of Dolls valued at between £3, 000 and £4, 000 Mr. Barry Elder (45) who lives in Glenthorne Road, Hammersmith has one aim in life - and that is to form a Museum of Dolls. Mr. Elder - his wife Jean and ten year old Susan live in one room in the house - the remaining six rooms are devoted to the dolls. Mr. Elder says that the cost of maintaining his doll museum is crippling - and for a year they lived on a soup and sandwich diet. During the day - Mr. Elder shows visitors around his Museum - and at night he works - cleaning a factory. Mrs. Elder does a full day work - as a shorthand typist - an d spends much of her time helping to mend dolls. Throughout the winter and last Autumn the family has been without electricity - gas or a telephone - because the bills were not paid. The family is determined to make the Doll Museum a success - for the collection is said to be worth £3000 to £4, 000 - and there are many valuable individual items.
