Dec. 12, 1966 - War toy shoppers held at Gunpoin'l. Christmas shoppers were held at gun point in Regent Street, London, yesterday - and handed leaflets protesting at the sale of honror toys'. Brendsihsing life-like tommyguns na d bazookas were six mothers, including Mrs. Anne Kerr, Labour M.P. for Rochester and Chatham, Kent. The rattle of toy gunfire helped to draw attention to their protest and the leaflets which said War toys are dangerous'. Among toys the mother object to is a weapon called Johnny Seven which costs more than 5 and consists of seven types of firearms, all of which clip together to form one large gun. Mrs. Kerr said this was the most villainous of all the war toys now being offered as Christmas presents. But she also objected to complete wer kirts. One of these, she said, included a miniature hospital, complete with wounded soldier lying in atent. The Government are at test going to set on toys which are physically dangerous kind, she said. Yesterday's protest organised by the Liaisen Committee for Women;s Peace groups, did not have official sanction and police warned the women they would have to keep moving to avoid being summoned for obstruction.
