Anna Moffo, opera singer, with doctor, Covent Garden, London
Feb. 02, 1964 - Star faints on stage at Covent Garden 27 year old American Soprano Anna Moffo collapsed last night while singing the leading role in Verdi's Rigoletto at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. She collapsed towards the end of a duet with leading man Peter Glossop during the first act, and Peter supported her while he ended the duet and the curtain was lowered. Miss Moffo had earlier complained that the opera was jinxed after her performance was delayed because leading tenor Geraint Evans had lost his voice. After her collapse yesterday, her understudy had to be called from home and the show resumed after a 45 minute delay.
