Jan. 01, 1968 - Scotland Yard Hunt Gang smuggling Pakistanis into Britain: Belgian police are hot on the trail of a gang who escort Pakistanis through Europe and smuggle the across the Channel to Britain. Detectives questioning British Cabin Cruiser CEDEFORE believe the gang's usual route runs through the Balkans and Germany and ends in Britain's Channel ports. The 25 Pakistanis were found to have cheques payable at London Banks. Scotland Yard and Interpol are being informed on developments. The British owner and Captain of the 50ft Cabin Cruiser CEDEFORE, Mr Anthony Austin, took 25 Pakistanis into Ostend on Thursday. Mr Austin, a partner in a boat firm at Ramsgate, had picked up the party at Nieuwpoort, 12 miles from Ostend. He said they asked to be taken on a fishing trip to mark the end of Ramadan, a Muslim month of fasting. It was reported that Mr. Austin, a 41-year-old former Lieut Commander in the Navy, has been questioned by the police, who have impounded his boat and are holding his passport.
