Sep. 09, 1977 - Anti-Apartheid Demonstration in London, The Death Of Steve Biko: The death of Steve Biko was announced by the South African police on Tuesday. He had died in police custody, the 24th political detainee to have died in the last 18 months in South Africa. Biko was an opponent of apartheid. Today a letter was handed into the South African embassy calling for an independent international enquiry into the circumstances of Biko's death.
