Anti-noise demonstration near Heathrow Airport, London

Mar. 03, 1970 - Residents of Suburbs around Heathrow airport take part in Sunday Noise demonstration: Total disruption of Heathrow Airport was the aim of residents of suburbs nearby who are protesting against aircraft noise and pollution. The campaign to turn Heathrow into a giant traffic and passenger jam by many motorists was organised by Chaos (close Heathrow Airport on Sundays) and led by Gordon Lansborough, who lives within five miles of the airport, at Hampton. The idea was for the motorists to drive slowly round the single roundabout past which all passenger traffic must go to reach the airport's central buildings, and thereby causing a big traffic jam. The demonstration was poorly supported and the police kept the traffic moving.
