Anti-nuclear demonstration at Foulness, near Southend, Essex

Apr. 26, 1960 - 26-4-60 Anti-Nuclear Weapons demonstration. They are removed by police. Twenty one demonstrators chose to go to jail yesterday for one week instead of paying £2 fines imposed for taking part in a demonstration against nuclear weapons, at the approaches to the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment on Foulness Island, near Southend, Essex. The demonstrators, including many women, just lay or sat in the roadway leading to the establishment and had to be removed by the police. They put up no resistance.
