Anti-war demonstration against US-Japan treaty, Tokyo

Mar. 27 Tokyo students want US-Japan treaty scrapped: More than 40, 000 members of 200 anti-war student factions and labour unionists clashed with police demanding the treaty be scrapped. The mutual security treaty in force for 10 years will automatically be extended on June 10th. Students claim no protection would be needed if US sea and land bases were removed. Some 280 students including girls were arrested. Students plan 10 days of street demonstrations. Ronald McLaine, an American teaching English in Japan, wears an American army uniform, and carries a replica of an M-16 automatic rifle with a headless baby on its bayonet, in the anti-war demonstration in Tokyo
