Feb. 20, 1950 - Artist John Minton's Works Sold At Christies: Works by artist John Minton, the 39-year-old Chelsea painter who died of an overdose of drugs two years ago, were sold at Christies today. The pictures were found in his studio after his death. In his will Minton asked that they be sold and the proceeds given to the Actors Benevolent Institution. He was considered one of the most talented British Artists to emerge after the war. Photo shows Lot 126. A self portrait by John Minton, which is on the reverse of another painting called A Naked Figure Lying On Shingle, Moonlight'. The painting which is unframed and on hardboard was sold for 50 gas
