Nov. 11, 1956 - Pianting Found Under Wallpaper Are 500 Years Old: Religous paintings founder under six layesr of a geing wallpaper in a tiny Hartforshire cottage have been identified as pre-Reformation Cathloc Wall paintings, near 500 years old. They are in a remarkably good state of preservation. The discovery has now been described by Sir Albert Richardson, President of the Royal Academy as unique and the paintings as extremely rare and of such importance that they should be preserved and shown to the public. the cottage, one of a row of four in the village of Picotts End, near Hamel Hampstead, has been graded an Ancient Monument by the Ministry of works. The man who made this incredible discovery, a 41-year old bachelor garage proprietors, has decided that even if he can get no official assistance he will spend something like 00 to be able to open the cottage and its wall paintings to the public, he hopes, next April.
