Aug. 09, 1956 - Clock sold for ?23 could have brought her ?5, 000: Mrs. Collette Levaux - sold a clock to her friend - Miss Sheila Lind - an antique dealer for ?23 some little time ago. The clock had been given to her by her husband 22 years ago as a birthday present. Miss Lind had the clock in her shop window for six weeks and eventually sold it for ?5 to an antique dealer who thought it was worth twice what he paid for it. He took the Clock (Sevres) to Sotheby's and put a reserve of ?50 on it. Sotheby's told him it would bring about ?250. Mr. H. Weinberg of the Bond Street Antique Galleries outbid all the others at the sale with a bid of ?1, 650. Today Mr. Weinberg said that he would have gone up to ?8, 000 for the clock. He said it is the only one of its kind. He said I would have given Mrs. Levaux ?5, 000 for it'.
