Mar. 03, 1958 - Epstein's Genesis - Up for sale. Much discussed figure of Pregnant woman'. One of the most important works of art - which are being offered for sale at Sotheby's - is Epstein's Genesis the white marble statue of pregnant motherhood -which created a great sensation when first shown. It was said to be valued at 1, 500 guineas when first shown in 1931 - but was banned from exhibition by many local authorities and marked as cutrageous etc. Photo shows The scene at Stheby's as the statue is unveiled - ready for sale is Mr. C.
