Feb. 02, 1959 - Chinese Boy Receives Painting Prize: Ten year old Lee Man Sung, a Chinese boy who was born deaf, won the first prize in his age group in an International Painting Competition for Deaf Children. More than 1, 000 children from all over the world sent in entries. Lec Man Sung, who flew the 7, 600 miles from Hong Kong, received the prize at the Royal Society of Arts today. The return fare for the boy and his teacher, were paid for by a London restaurant proprietor, Robert John Koon. Photo shows Lee Man Sung, the 10-year old Chinese boy, and Lillian Walsh, aged 11, receiving their prizes from Sir Alfred Bossom, Chairman of the Royal Society of Arts. The painting done by Lee Man Sung was judged with one by Lillian Walsh, who comes from Islington, as the best of the 1, 000 entrants
