Jun. 06, 1959 - Rembrandt Self-Portrait Worth £20, 000 Lay In Attic For Ten Years An old painting that lay in a family's attic for ten years was revealed in London this afternoon to be a Rembrandt self-portrait - worth more than £20, 000. At Sotheby's a fortnight ago it is was sold by a Glasgow schoolmaster for only £1, 700. The new owner had it cleaned only to discover that it was worth nearly fifteen times as much. Painted about 1628, its measurements are 9 3/8 x 7 7/8 inches. The new owner is not thinking of re-selling. The painting is unsigned, but so is the only other recognised Rembrandt self-portrait which is in Cassel, Germany.
