Dec. 09, 1959 - Famous Granach Painting stolen in Frankfurt: The world famous painting The Venus by Lucas Cranach the Older was stolen from the gallery of the Stadel Institute of Arts in Frankfurt. the painting was property of the institute since 1878. Its value is estimated at quarter million D-marks. The institute has set out 10, 000 D-Marks for th thief to return the painting without the police being notified. Photo shows Cables hanging down at the empty wall (arrow) where Cranach's Venus had its place. On the left is the Painting Hiob and wife by Durer
