Antiques - Art - Ceramics - Murals - Paint

Mar. 22 Hamilton collection discovered off Cornish coast; One of the world's finest painted pottery collections which has been missing for almost 180 years, is being brought up by divers after it's discovery last year, and being reassembled by the British Museum. At present, nobody is willing to put a price on the collection which once belonged to Sir William Hamilton, who became remembered as the man who shared his wife with an Admiral (Napoleon) and shared his treasure with the sea. Some experts are putting an unofficial value on the collection of around1 millions but the British Museum is reluctant to quote a figure as they have the first refusal when the collection, which officially belongs to the Crown, is put up for sale by the Receiver of Wreck. So far, about 20, 000 fragments, or sherds as they are called, have been brought up and are being assembled at the museum. It has been described by voluntary workers as the biggest jigsaw puzzled in the world's and although there are already a handful of the sherds on view at the museum, it will another one to two years before the entire collection has been put together again. More rockhunting as a diver sifts through a bowl of debris, at the wreckage of the warship Colossus, off the Isles of Sicily
