Apr. 17 Art of the First Americans Only 17 cm. high this sensitive little figure, beautifully carved of wood, represents a Caddo Indian holding a sacred bundle between his knees. The Caddos are southernmost of the Plains tribes. Traces of paint cling to the image; the wig and mustachios are of human hair. Many people belonged to the hundle. The non-acquisitive Indians would not say it belonged to them. (Natural Musuem of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution)
