Oct. 10, 1961 - SIT-DOWN MERCEDES THINKS HER FATHER'S A GENIUS. MERCEDES BURLEIGH is 16 and she thinks her father is a genius and she doesn't mind who knows. Yesterday she set out to tell every person that passes the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square that he is one. To support her view she is showing on of her father Lionel Burleigh's paintings of George Bernard Shaw in oils. All day she sat outside the Gallery with the painting and a notice saying: This is the picture that was offered to the National Portrait Gallery to replace the missing Goya - It was rejected. i consider my father to be a genius and one day the nation will buy his pictures at very high prices.
