Dec. 07, 1960 - 7-12-60 The Gloomy Cavalier fetches £182, 000 The hitherto unrecorded Franz Hals painting which has been called The Gloomy Cavalier was sold this afternoon at Sothebys for the record price of £182, 000. It is said to be an even finer work than the famous Laughing Cavalier, the most famous painting by Franz Hals. The painting was sold by Major D.J.
