Dec. 12, 1960 - THE GLOOMY CAVALIER - FETCHES £182, 000.: The hitherto unrecorded Franz Hals painting - which has been called The Gloomy Cavalier was sold this afternoon at Sotheby's for the record price of £182, 000. It is said to be an even finer work than the famous Laughing Cavalier - the most famous famous painting by Franz Hals. The painting was sold by Major D.J.
