Feb. 02, 1964 - Four Hundredth Anniversary of Christopher Marlowe. The Only portrait in Existence: The four hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Elizabethan dramatist Christopher Marlowe is being celebrated this year. This is the only portrait of him known to be existence and was produced by an unknown artist in 1585 and carries Marlowe's favourite latin proverb What nourishes me destroys me'. The painting was lost for nearly four hundred years being rediscovered during the Spring cleaning of the Master's Lodge at Corpus Christie College - Cambridge in 1953. The painting now hangs in Corpus Christie College, Great hall where Marlowe himself studied between the years 1581-1587 taking his Arts Degree Marlowe (1564-1593) was killed in a Tavern brawl in Deptford
