Jan. 01, 1965 - Two Old Masters - May Fetch 1, 000.000.. A Rembrandt And A Velásquez.. Two old Masters stand side by side in Christies London sales rooms - and are to be offered for sale - and it is believed that between them they could fetch a Million Pounds.. certainly nothing less than £500, 000. The pictures are a Rembrandt portrait of his small son Titus and a Velásquez painting of a Spanish jetser Don Juan de Calabazas. They are from the collection belonging to Sir Francis and Lady Cook - members of the family which made a textile fortune in the last century. Since the war the paintings have been at their home Le Coin, as St. Aubin, Jersey. Sir Francis inherited them from his father who bought the Rembrandt during the 1914-18 war to stop it leaving Britain. He paid about £60, 000 for it - a figure unheard of 50 years ago..
