Nov. 11, 1964 - Gauguin Discovery Sold For £90, 000. Tahitian Woman and a Boy - by Gauguin was sold at Sotheby's for £90, 000 - the purchaser being Dr. Armand Hammer of the Hammer Galleries, New York. The painting is believed to be of Gauguin's mistress and her brother. It is signed 99. It was bought in Paris in 1923 since when its whereabouts have been unknown - until this present auction.
