Jan. 13, 1967 - Private View Of The Royal Academy Winter Exhibition: The Royal Academy today held a private view of their winter exhibition, the theme of which is the work of Sir John Millais, P.R.A. who painted, apart from many other works, a portrait of a blond, culy-haired child - his grandson, who was later to become Admiral Sir William James - and called it Bubbles'. This painting was purchased by Thomas Barratt, one of the joint proprietors of A.& F. Pears Limited, on April 6, 1886, for the sum of 2, 000 gas. Barratt knows as the father of advertising used Bubbles to promote Pears Transparent Soap'. In 1932 the Preparing to be a Beautiful Lady theme was created and since then a little girl-has been chosen each year as Miss Pears to represent Pears Soap. Today, four-year Tessa Roberts, of Teddington, Middlesex, was at the private view today to see Bubbles for the first time. Tessa was chosen from nearly 60, 000 entries to become Miss Pears 1966'.
