Dec. 12, 1967 - Monet Painting Sold For 560, 000 Gns: Claude Monet's Le Terrasse a Saint Adresse, one of the finest and most celebrated Impressionist paintings to come up for auction since the war - war sold at Christie's today for 560, 000 guineas. The painting was sold by the Reverend Theodore Pitcairn and the Bnefola Foundation, Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. Painted most probable in the summer of 1857, Monet sold it for17, some years later it fetched1, 700. It was bought by Mr. Geoffrey Agnew, of Agnews, the Bond Street art dealers.
