May 22, 1968 - Wood Carving Thank You Gift To Hospital: A wood carving has been given to a hospital to say thank you to staff who helped Mr. Thomas Hogarth during four operations. For Mr. Hogarth (seen here with the plaque) is deaf and dumb and could not speak his thanks to nurses and doctor at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. So he spent four weeks on a wood carving depicting Jesus healing a deaf person, and took it to the the hospital. Mr. Thomas Briggs, the hospital secretary said We have decided to hand the carving in the hospital's chapel. It is a fine piece of craftsmanship. It is of particular relevance bearing in mind the nature of the miracle depicted. It is sincerely appreciated by the hospital staff. He learned wood carving at a deaf and dumb schjool in Newcastle Upon Tyne, . He has done carving of biblical scenes for several churches in Carsile, Another carving showing the LAST supper is in the foreground. Other carving is in the background
