1967 - Mr. Mann Collects The Picasso Sold For World Record Price. Mr. David Mann, head of New York's Bodley Gallery, who paid £190, 000 for a painting by Picasso of a mother standing by the sea with a child in her arms, collected the painting from Sotheby's. The price paid was a world record for the work of a living artist. Mr. Mann bought the painting for an unnamed client.
