Feb. 02, 1971 - Signorini painting in Sotheby's Sale: One of the most important 19th-century Italian paintings to appear in the saleroom, was being auctioned at Sotheby's today - in a sale of fine 19th and 20th century British and Continental pictures. Although Telemaco Signorini, who was born in Florence in 1835, was one of Italy's leading narrative artists towards the close of the last century, his painting rarely come onto the market. The large painting in Sotheby's sale - The Ponte Vecchio, Florence - is one of his major works. Signorini died in 1901.
