Nov. 11, 1969 - 3.3 million dollars for a Franz Hals The Bavarian government offered about 3.3 million dollars to Prince Franz Josef of Liechtenstein for a painting of Franz Hals, the famous Dutch portrait painter 1584 - 1666, representing Willem van Huythuysen (our picture). It is this the most precious painting in the famous Liechtenstein collection since a Leonardo da Vinci has been sold to the National Galerie in Washington in 1967 for nearly 5 million dollars
