Oct. 10, 1968 - Prosecutor Moves Over Sale of £150, 000 Madonna The Director of Public Prosecutions is inquiring into the original sale of the £150, 000 13th century Madonna and Child painting. The inquiry centres on the allegation made concerning a Somerset country house sale in March, when the picture changed hands for only £2, 700. The National Gallery then bought it for the increased amount. The painting is by the Sienese artist Duggio. art dealer Julius Weitzner, of Mayfair was the man who got it for £2, 700 at an auction at the home of the previous owner, the late Thomas Bridsen of Aldwick Court, Wrington, Somerset.
