Nov. 12, 1969 - November 12th, 1969 Pictures ceremonially burnt by artist The 22-year old Austrian artist Helmut Kand, whose first exhibition opens at the Ewan Phillips Gallery, Maddox Street tomorrow (Private View today), this morning ceremonially burnt two of his favourite paintings, Ikon and Labyrinth of Toys, in the courtyard of the gallery. The ashes of the paintings burnt will be displayed in glass phials among the exhibits in the show. Helmut Kand holds the unusual theory that, as he says, It should be the aim of each creative person in the course of his life to burn everything he has created.
