Aug. 08, 1974 - £1 Million Art Collection May Be Sold Abroad. An art collection said to be worth £1 million may be sold abroad to spite the nation if the Government goes ahead with its wealth tax proposals. Mr. Denis Mahon, 63, a leading collector and art historian, said: I had intended to bequeath the collection, my life's love, to the public for everyone to share. But if the Government are going to start bullying and victimising me, then by golly, I'll sell it abroad first and pay my tax with the proceeds. Under the Green Paper proposals published, anyone with possession worth £100, 000 or more would be liable to the new tax. Photo Shows:- Mr. Denis Mahon in a corner of his Chelsea gallery, the large paintings are by Guercino, the smaller canvas is a Rosa
