Jul. 07, 1975 - Cracked glass vase is sold for £30, 000 at Sotheby's Belgravia: A highly important group of 19th century glass, which has been on loan to the British Museum since 1959, was put up for auction today at Sotheby's Belgrvia. Known as the Pargeter-Northwood Camec Glass collection, one of the prize peices was a copy of the Barberini or Portland Roman glass vase. Philip pargeter and his cousin John Northwood took the incomplete vase several times to the British museum to compare it with the original, and on one cold morning the heat of his hands cracked the vase. This was sold to a New York buyer today for £30, 000. Another item in this valuable collection was the Milton vase, dated 1878, which was sold to another New York buyer for £26, 000. Photo shows the camec-glass Portland vase carved by John Northwood which was sold at Sotheby's Belgravia, for £30, 000 today
